I love cocktails! We don’t drink that much but when we do, we like to choose nice bars that serve a variety of cocktails and nice beers. I would much rather have 3 stunning cocktails than lots of lower quality drinks however I never step away from my old favourites and we always go to the same, well-known bars. It’s nice to try new drinks and discover new tastes and I was lucky enough to be invited to a Cocktail Masterclass at Brass Monkey in Nottingham City Centre. It’s a bar that Mario and I had many dates in when we first got together officially and it’s actually the bar in which we decided to start trying for a baby!

The Cocktail Masterclass was a really fun evening where we got together with the general manager of Brass Monkey, Ehren and the organiser of Notts Cocktails Festival Nick to find out more about the Festival and what events are going to be running during the week. Throughout the evening, we were able to taste some beautiful cocktails made by Ehren himself and heard all about the Notts Cocktails Festival Events!

Notts Cocktails Festival launched in 2013 by Nick Fox and after great success in Leeds and Manchester, the Cocktail Festival finally made its way to Nottingham! The aim of Notts Cocktails Festival is to encourage drinkers to ‘drink better, not more’ by indulging in the finest cocktails and sampling the highest-quality spirit brands, as well showcasing the calibre of bars and industry talent in the city of Nottingham.

The week-long Festival includes a vast range of events, tastings, workshops, and parties taking place in 16 of the best bars in Nottingham including Brass Monkey, Curious Manor, and Boilermaker. Each bar is teaming up with a different premium spirit brand such as Hendricks Gin, Reyka Vodka, and Jack Daniels, to serve selected cocktails to Festival wristband holders. Simply buy your Festival wristband for £10 online and you can enjoy unlimited £5 cocktails at the participating bars across the city centre and gain access to all of the events throughout the full 7 days! Some of the events going on throughout the week can be found below:

Our Cocktails Masterclass at Brass Monkey gave us all a really good insight into Notts Cocktails Festival itself, the fact that it’s based around educating people about where their drinks come from, how to enjoy great tasting drinks, and how less is definitely more! We were able to sample a Gin Collins made with Portobello Road Gin, a French Martini Shot, a Pineapple and Basil Margarita and my personal favourite of the night a Passionate Afternoon which was made with prosecco and vodka.

All of these are designed to be made easily at home and it was great to try some cocktails I wouldn’t normally choose for myself as I always pick fruity cocktails like a Pornstar Martini or a Strawberry Daiquiri. We will definitely be heading down to the Notts Cocktails Festival event over the weekend!
