Summer is here, and after a year or more of not seeing friends and family, and missing out on children’s parties and celebrations, it is a great time to get planning an outdoor event. BBQs, outdoor brunches, parties, and drinks can be a good way to see the people we love but still keep safe by staying outdoors. This also means that there is no better way to do it than having a perfectly Instagrammable tablescape for the event, that is set and accessorised, all ready for the occasion.

No matter if it is a child’s birthday party or hosting drinks with friends in the garden, having a tablescape that looks good and suits your personality and style is a good way to make some great new memories. For any keen crafters among us, then it can be really enjoyable too. No matter what you are looking to do, here are some tablescape ideas to get you inspired, that are perfect for summer.

Tablescape basics

When you think about the tablescape that you want, it can be easy to just think about the basic elements and get that right; there are only a few things that are needed to get you started. You will need your plates and dishes, along with silverware, to start with. As for some other basics, you can’t go too far wrong with just a white plain tablecloth, and then some different types of cloth napkins. With different colour napkins that complement each other, it can really help the table to pop.

Add centrepiece decor

To really help the table to stand out, you need to think about adding centrepiece decor or a garnish to the plate. This could be something you could learn how to make, like create a beautiful balloon display. You can also make a centrepiece with completely natural items, such as flowers, twigs, and fruit. You could make a garland with citrus fruit tree branches, and some chopped up citrus fruit. Each plate could have a wedge of fruit on too, as a garnish.

Pops of colour

Adding pops of colour onto the table can really help it to stand out, especially in the summer months. These can help to bring personality to your table and make it look vibrant and ready to party. It could be done through the napkins that you choose or your other accessories. One good way to add colour that is subtle, is using bright and patterned placements under the dishes. You could also fill jars on the table with things like sweets or other favours, which guests can help themselves to over the course of the evening.

When you have got your basics down, it is all about adding bits of your own style and personality, with colours and themes that will suit your event well. Small things can make a difference to how it all looks, and you get to be as creative as you want to be. Do you like creating tablescapes? It would be great to hear what you think.
