No one’s going very far at the moment let’s face it! Everything seems to be on hold and the restrictions seem to change most days, if you can keep up with them at all! So, when your summer holiday has been cancelled and then your October half term getaway is cancelled, what can you do? We’ve decided that after having a couple of weekends away cancelled over the last 12 months and our usual February half term week away looking less and less likely as the year goes on, for the time being, we will be staying at home.
Staycations have become more and more popular since the whole world shut its doors in March. Everyone is spending their time and money at home and in local businesses rather than in different regions, let alone different countries! Long gone are the swimming costumes, sunglasses and hot sun and now we need our winter jumpers, hats, gloves and coats! We all know you can’t rely on the UK weather even when it looks sunny outside, you know it can begin chucking it down with rain in an instant! I have a really limited number of coats and outdoor clothing and recently found out that my waterproof jacket is not particularly waterproof and isn’t very warm for long walks and my winter coat is very warm but not waterproof at all! Not ideal for the British climate! How can you enjoy a staycation this year?
Lighthouse Clothing have created a range of clothing and waterproof coats perfect for daily school runs, brisk walks, family days out and general everyday fun! Designed in Northern Ireland where they know a fair bit about the wind and rain, the inspiration comes from their “love of the coast and desire to make life a little simpler.” Each coat is designed with style and practicality in mind as they believe that practical doesn’t have to mean a compromise on style of product.
We love going out for the day on long walks and to various adventure parks and farms. We have loads of really lovely places nearby that we can drive to in under 30 minutes so even in the case of a lockdown again, we can still take the girls out. When packing up our bags for a day out, we always pack for every kind of weather as it’s a lot safer and we are always prepared. Lighthouse clothing were kind enough to send me 2 of their gorgeous waterproof jackets to put to the British weather test!
The first coat is the Long Iona in grey. This ¾ length coat is waterproof and breathable as well as being windproof and insulated. It’s a classic anorak style but fully lined and roomy enough for layers underneath, making it the perfect Autumn/Winter coat. It has a soft jersey striped lining inside which is great for keeping the heat in. Full pockets on the outside and also inside which is really useful, and the zip is reinforced with poppers. Perfect for cold, wet days when you need a chunky jumper and a hood.
The second coat is the Emily Jacket in raspberry. I love this one and the colour is stunning! This parka has a beautiful dipped hem which creates a lovely shape when wearing. Fully waterproof and breathable, the coat is perfect for when it’s wet but not too cold. You can roll the sleeves up to make them ¾ length and pull in the waist to create a pretty shape. The striped lining is eye catching and you can open up the back of the coat with poppers. With front pockets and inside pockets, it’s a great coat for the school run or a weekend stroll.
The Lighthouse clothing range has something for everyone, and their collection of waterproof jackets is really impressive! The quality of both coats is very high. They are so soft and comfortable; I now feel prepared for every eventuality! The coats don’t sacrifice style for practicality, and you will now be ready for any adventure or enabling you to enjoy a staycation you could possibly have!
