We were recently contacted to see if we would like tickets to the Snowman Tour coming to various venues around the UK this December and of course we said yes! As big fans of The Snowman since childhood we can’t wait for Mia to experience watching the show and also have the experience of listening to a live orchestra perform ‘Walking in the Air’. (You can find out more about the Tour itself and about booking tickets.) As part of the evening, there is also going to be a showing of The Bear and the Piano and so I decided to buy the book so we could enjoy it together before going to see the performance.
The Bear and the Piano is an award winning book by David Litchfield, an illustrator from Bedfordshire and this is his first picture book. The story is about a young bear who stumbles across something he has never seen before. He teaches himself to play a strange instrument and when overheard by a father and son picnicking in the woods, goes on an incredible journey to New York where his piano playing makes him a huge star! After a while, although he loves the fame and fortune of travelling all over the world, he starts to miss the friends and family that he has left behind and goes in search of them again.
The book has been turned into a short film, narrated by Joanna Lumley and will be shown on the night as well as the Snowman. The performances are suitable for children aged 3+ and there will be a special appearance from the Snowman himself! We are really looking forward to going in December and will be a great start to the Christmas period for us!
