A summer garden is a place that many homeowners love to take advantage of. It’s a space to enjoy some beautiful weather in the comfort of your own home.
However, for a lot of British people, their gardens aren’t always well-maintained once summer comes around, especially when the weather we get is fairly hit and miss at the best of times.
However, if you’re looking to enjoy your garden for the summer and want to make some changes, here are five simple steps to follow.
- Incorporate flowers and plants that are low-maintenance
Firstly, try to look for flowers and plants that are fairly low maintenance. This is important because you don’t want to pick out flowers or plants that are going to require you to go into the garden every day to water and prune as and when needed. Unless, of course, you have the time and want to do that.
Instead, look for the flowers and plants that look nice but, as far as maintenance is concerned, will be very easy to upkeep. Flowers like daffodil bulbs are an easy and go-to solution for anyone who wants something simple but beautiful in their garden space.
- Position your furniture where the sun hits
Think about how and where you position your furniture when it comes to your garden space. It’s worth watching where the sun rises and sets throughout the day so that you’re able to maximise the positioning of the furniture.
For example, you might want to add the sofas and chairs where you’ll be lounging in the garden, in direct sunlight. However, if you’re dining, you might want a bit more shade instead of being blinded by light and heat.
- Add some vertical interest to the space
Just like your home’s interior, you can often forget about the vertical interest that you can create when it comes to your garden space.
Think about the vertical space you have available when it comes to maximising the height in your outdoor area. For example, you could look to add some natural wooden fencing that sits higher up above your plants to create a bit more privacy.
The more vertical space you add to the garden, the more intimacy it creates within your garden.
- Make use of decking for depth in your garden
Decking is always good for helping to add some depth to the garden. If your garden is all on one level, then it can feel very boring as a result.
With that in mind, you should think about what decking is worthwhile to add to your space, whether you attach it to the property or create a separate space in your garden to highlight your lounge or dining spaces.
- Don’t forget to add light
Adding light to your garden is a great way to maximise the space, especially during times when there might not be a lot of daylight left. With lighting, you create ambience in the space, and that can make a big difference to how it looks and feels.
Designing the perfect summer garden for your space is important to get the most out of it, so use these tips to get started.
