Mia has always been tall and we had loads of issues trying to purchase a car seat for her when she was just out of her baby seat, we were not looking forward to trying to find a suitable one once she moved up to the next level of car seat! I have previously written about Kiddies Kingdom who kindly invited us to their launch event and as part of their event, we were sent a brand new car seat for Mia to try out. The car seat we were sent is the Joie Elevate 1/2/3 car seat in Cherry for children aged from 1 through to 12 years old.
The Joie Elevate boasts flexible features that grow with your child and its best feature (for us) is that fact that it is 2 seats in 1; a group 1/2/3 forward facing child seat for children 9kg-15kg and a high back booster seat for children 15kg-36kg/12 years. With full impact protection lining for the head and upper body area and added layers of cushioning you can be sure your child is in safe hands!
The Joie Elevate is really easy to fit in the car and we had no trouble with it at all which was a massive plus for us seeing as we had so much trouble with the last car seat hunt! However the car seat does come with full installation instructions and a car fitting guide so if you were in store you can check the seat will fit in your car before you buy it! The group 1/2/3 seat uses a 5 point harness system to secure your child in their seat but when they get a bit bigger, the seat uses the cars 3-point seatbelt to secure them and with a one-hand, 9 position height adjustable headrest means that you can adjust the seat to suit you, fuss-free, even with your child sat in the seat!
The headrest is so easy to adjust. With Mia sat in her seat (unbuckled), I can move the headrest up or down to suit her with just one hand which is really quick and useful to do. The seat is easily changeable between the 5 point harness and the 3-point car seatbelt fastening. The headrest and 5 point harness (if using) can be adjusted together without the need to rethread the harness straps each time. There are 2 5 point harness positions so the seat can be used that little but longer with a smaller child!
There is plenty of room in the seat itself and I have no worries that it won’t last Mia for a number of years. With removable, machine washable covers, the seat is really handy when you have a messy child and you let them eat in your car! Mia’s favourite feature of the car seat has to be the fact it has a cup holder! She thinks it’s amazing and it also means she can’t lose her beaker under the passenger seat in front while I’m busy driving!
Mia is a tall 4 year old so we went straight for the cars 3-point seatbelt fastening. I would have preferred her to have the 5 point harness fastening but she’s just slightly too tall. I’m really impressed with how secure Mia feels in the seat and we love the fact that the seat grows with her and will take her all the way through now until she’s old enough to sit in the car herself (a scary thought!).
It isn’t isofix compatible which would have made me feel less anxious about just using the 3-point car seatbelt fastening for Mia however I do feel confident she is safe and secure and we really like the look and feel of the car seat itself. We loved her last car seat and it was always going to be difficult to replace it however we are pleasantly surprised and Mia thinks her ‘big girl seat’ is amazing! For £60 with free delivery I think the Joie Elevate is a great seat that is going to last us, potentially, for the next 8 years!
