With Summer fast approaching you may be starting to think about your home and garden space. Especially thinking about all the things you’ll need to start doing ready for the summer months! In the garden we’ve been starting to tidy away all the fallen leaves and generally tidying up ready to get the BBQ and outdoor furniture out. In the house, I’ve been trying to do some spring cleaning but if I’m honest, I haven’t got very far with that! I like to give everything a good sort out and get the summer clothes out around this time of year. Today I have 3 easy jobs you can get done ahead of the summer to get your home and garden ready to enjoy when the nice weather comes around!

Outdoor Furniture

The first thing to do is to get your outdoor furniture out. We keep ours stored in the garage, so it usually needs a good clean down to get rid of the spider webs! To do this, I use a garden furniture cleaner and it always comes up really well. You may find that you need to update your furniture and now is the time to get it done! There are so many nice pieces to choose from. You could also get the BBQ out and make sure it’s in a good state ready for your next BBQ! We keep ours outside all year round as it’s a bit of a beast! We put a heavy-duty cover on it so when we come to use it, it’s ready to go! We bought a new one a couple of weeks ago so I can’t wait to start using it!

Tip: start buying your logs and wood for your outdoor wood burners! Store them away ready for the summer nights!

Window Cleaning

The next thing to do that’s easy but has a lot of impact on the look of your house, is to clean down all the outside window frames and sills. If you have a conservatory, now is the time to get that roof done too! I know it sounds like a bit of pain but honestly, it doesn’t have to be! I do all the upstairs windows with a gadget I bought a couple of years ago. It’s a long stick with a sponge end that can be moved about to do really awkward windows. We have a difficult side window that we can’t easily get to, so this is so useful for cleaning that! uPVC windows are so easy to maintain and it’s really easy to keep refreshed through the year as well. You don’t need any fancy cleaners for uPVC window frames and sills. Just good old soap and water will do the trick! Make sure to use a non-abrasive cloth for this as you don’t want to scratch the surfaces.

Planting Flowers

The last thing you can do is start planting some beautiful flowers and plants. It’s amazing how much difference a few colourful flowers and plants can have on your garden space! No matter what size your outdoor space is, there’s always a way to brighten it up! If you don’t have a lot of space, use planters and pots to create a wonderful outdoor area. We have artificial grass, so we always use bright pots to add colour to our garden. You could get imaginative and put-up trellis on your fences perfect for creating lovely flower displays with climbing roses or clematis. There is no end to what you could create here!

I hope you’ve found these quick tips useful. It doesn’t have to be time consuming or hard work to get your home and garden summer ready at all!
