As a child I always enjoyed playing with various toys whether they were dolls and dressing up or building with Duplo or Mega Bricks. We have always been keen to encourage Mia to play with whatever she wants and she will often pick Grossery Gang over Shopkins or Mega Blocks over dolls so when I saw that Hornby were looking for children to try out My First Scalextric, I knew that it would be something that would interest Mia a lot!

My brother had a Scalextric when he was little (he’s now in his 20’s!) so I know a bit about them although I don’t remember having a go myself very often! The My First Scalextric is the ideal start for younger drivers as it boasts easy assembly and power level controllers. Mia was so unbelievably excited when she saw the box! We had hidden it from her until the weekend so that we could give it the time and attention that it would need to set up and for Mia to play with. However it was actually really easy to set up from the box. All of the track pieces easily snap together with both red and yellow coloured markers. We started with the standard figure of 8 track but you can get creative with it! Also the track is fully compatible with the Micro Scalextric range of sets and cars so you can build and extend your track with new track pieces and cars!

The benefits of My First Scalextric is that it offers boosts in your child’s hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity as well as helping them to think in a risk-reward way. Mia certainly got to grips with the track straight away and after a few minutes practice, she got the hang of it and her car was soon whizzing around the track (she still needs some practice with slowing down on the corners!). The Magnatraction technology helps to keep the cars on the track and variable hand-controllers allow the speed of racing to be adjusted depending on your skill level. The cars are also super resistant so if there are any crashes, they will be ready to pop straight back on the track for another race!

My First Scalextric has been a great addition to our house over the past week! Mia thinks it’s amazing and I have to say that Mario and I have had a fair few races ourselves and it is really good fun! The track has been a perfect fixture since it was set up and for £39.99 makes the perfect gift for children aged 3+! A great fast-paced game for all the family!
