We love reading to Mia and she seems to have picked up the love of books that Mario and I have had since we were little so it’s lovely when we get the opportunity to review new books and discover them along with Mia. Most recently we have been sent one of a set of 4 books about Harty the Hedgehog and his BuZZy Friends, created by Michael Walter. The stories are each based around the adventures that these friends have and were written to provide advice, information and fun-filled activity to stimulate children’s minds.
Harty Hedgehog and his BuZZy Friends are involved in normal daily activities and adventures, to which children can easily relate, helping them to learn about a range of subjects, and setting clear guidelines for conduct in a way that they will easily understand. There is also a BuZZy Code for children to be part of and follow:
There are 4 books in the series so far and we meet all of the characters in each one; Harty Hedgehog, Officer Buzzle, Garlanda the Goose, and Treacle the Kitten. The books themselves are written in an easy to learn verse and although I initially felt that there is a lot of text, it’s actually more of an introduction to the characters book and you can read just the ‘story’ bits only if you want to. The story is really simple for children to follow and Mia loved meeting all of the characters. Her favourite is Treacle the Kitten! The illustrations are really colourful and bold in print so are really appealing to children and help keep them engaged in the story. Mia really liked the book and has asked for it at bedtime a lot. It’s a lovely story and one which we will be reading for a while!
You can also join the BuZZy Friends Club which comes with a free club badge and is definitely something that Mia will enjoy being part of. Another great thing about the BuZZy Friends series is that you can sign up for the newsletter so not only can you read the books and find out what BuZZy is up to but you can also get extra information and activities from these newsletters as well as downloadable sketches for your child to colour in. Children love being part of clubs and memberships so these little extras are really great for that! At £6.99 a book, they are good value and we are really looking forward to reading about Harty and his BuZZy Friends adventures in the future!
