I don’t tend to wear jumpers or sweaters very often due to be constantly hot all the time however when I was pregnant with Lottie and my refusal to buy another coat to last me just a few months, I realised the need for something more than a cardigan. My current jumpers still fit just about but due to my bump size towards the end, they didn’t sit all the way down onto my hips. I love an oversized jumper so when I was contacted by The Sweater Shop to see if I would like to try their Aran Sweaters, I was really excited to try one out! I would definitely be keeping warm that Winter!
The Sweater Shop are experts in Irish Aran Sweaters and have been for over 30 years now. They are a family run business which was established by the same guy who runs the company today. They put quality, value and selection at the forefront of what they do and now have a large selection of superb quality Irish knitwear at reasonable prices. I chose one of their Aran Sweaters in a Natural colour (£82.52) as I knew it would go with my maternity jeans and skirt so I could wear it anytime I needed to! The Aran Sweater feels and looks like a hand-knit sweater but it is knit on a loom in Ireland so you get the quality of hand-knit without the price tag!
The knitwear has a long standing history and is literally made with its historic legacy in mind which adds to the high quality feel of the sweaters themselves. The Cable Stitch depicts the fisherman’s ropes, The Diamond Stitch reflects the small fields of the islands, The Zig Zag Stitch represents the twisting cliff paths on the islands, and The Tree of Life reflects the importance of the clan and is an expression of clan unity. As well as choosing what type of knitwear you are after and the colour require, you can also choose from this array of complex stitch patterns and soft natural chunky wool types that will keep you both warm and looking great!
The Aran Sweater by The Sweater Shop is made from 100% Merino wool which features a beautiful cable stitching. It is unisex so is generous fitting which is perfect for me who loves oversized knitwear! The sweaters are warm and durable so great for the autumn and winter seasons and are designed to last a long time.
The sweater is more expensive than I would normally pay however when you are buying into such a high quality product steeped in history and made with the amount of material you actually get, it is well worth the amount. The Aran Sweater is by far the comfiest and warmest sweater I have ever owned and I lived in it for the over 3 months. Add to the fact the sizing means it fit perfectly over my Lottie bump, I was extremely happy with it!
How will you be keeping warm this Winter?
