When Mia was due start school, apart from the worry and anxiety we have for the ‘big day’ there is so much to consider before your child actually starts. We need to be prepared for the longer days, her uniform and shoes need to be bought and we need to start to talk to her about what school life is like so she can be as prepared as she can be. One thing I hadn’t really put much thought into was the fact she is going to be more susceptible to illnesses and viruses, being around more children than she ever has before. As a child who really hates having her hair brushed, let alone put in a bobble or styled with a clip, I’m also worried about something I have never personally experienced but as a Teaching Assistant before I had Mia, I have encountered…Head Lice!
Kit&Coco, ‘the experts in happy hair’, were kind enough to send us some of their head lice prevention products and believe me, I was more than happy to try them out on Mia (and myself!). Kit&Coco have created a range of products specially designed to prevent, protect and free hair from head lice and their eggs. Head lice are surrounded by lots of myths but itching tends to occur 4-6 weeks after the child first gets them so the best way to spot them straight away is by combing through the hair if you know there has been a lice invasion at your child’s school! The best way to do this is by using a proper fine-toothed comb as well as checking around the ears and the nape of the neck. Head lice reproduce very quickly and are spread through head to head contact. Thankfully not only do Kit&Coco do a complete treatment pack but they also do 2 prevention products; a spray and a mousse!
Kit&Coco have created a highly efficient and safe formula which uses the natural qualities of coconut oil and plant-based products. A lot of head lice treatments are full of chemicals and with Kit&Coco, you will find none of these, creating not only a more natural product to use on your child’s hair but also a product that head lice themselves cannot become immune to. Kit&Coco firmly believe that prevention is better than cure so they sent us their protective spray and protective mousse. The protective spray was a lot easier to get Mia to put on as you just spray the supplied headband with the spray, leave on for a minute and then pop on to your child’s head. The fact the headband is bright pink meant that Mia was more than happy to have it on and didn’t even realise it had the protection spray on it! Made with eucalyptus and citriodora, the spray also smells lovely, no harsh, unpleasant smell, it just smells good! It will be so easy to pop it on her every morning whilst having breakfast before we go out the door and I can be safe in the knowledge she is protected from head lice for 24 hours.
The protective mousse again is really easy to apply, just dispense the mousse into your hand and spread through hair. It again protects against head lice for 24 hours as well as hydrating and caring for your child’s hair. The mousse goes on really nicely and after a few minutes, doesn’t look like you have put anything on the hair. The great thing about it is that because it’s a natural product, there is no chemical smell and like the spray, smells lovely on your hair. Mia wasn’t as keen for me to apply this as much as the spray because she doesn’t like me messing with her hair anyway but for children who don’t mind their hair being styled, you would have no problem putting this on before school!
I was really impressed with the prevention products we were sent to try out! Kit&Coco have created some lovely, high quality; natural products that can help you protect your child from catching head lice. At £10.75 each, the protective spray and protective mousse are well worth the money and well worth the peace of mind knowing that you can prevent your child from getting head lice without having to wait until they actually catch them before you can treat their hair! As well as their treatments and prevention products, Kit&Coco have created a lice and egg comb, a shower cap, an applicator brush, and a headband to make it even easier to keep your child’s hair head lice free. There is a page full of Tips and Tricks video’s on their website so you can be sure you are protecting your child’s hair as well as you possibly can do!

This look great. The school my girls go to recommend ‘bug busting’. My girls haven’t head lice, but I still ‘bug bust’! You use a nit comb and comb their hair whilst wet with conditioner in. Can be time consuming, but worth it. Thanks for linking up to #ThatFridayLinky

That’s a great idea! I will have to try that as preventing nits is so much better than trying to deal with them when they are there! 🙂

I know, I managed to get through my 30yrs without them but Mia is awful at putting her hair up so I’m worried she will get them! 🙂
