Trends come and go. And the real deal is to own your style. This helps in understanding what works for you (personal style and shape). If you need to change your wardrobe this year or need inspiration, then this year brings exciting trends.

They vary from denim, prints, and utility wear. Read on to find out some of the top fashion trends of the year to follow.

1.   Denim

This was present in 2022 and isn’t going away. It is still on the fashion agenda for the new year. Last year denim had its Y2K aesthetic which majorly heralded the return of a low-rise waist. But, this year will be about the ’90s, with head-to-toes that are laid back, loose, and cool.

There will be influence from utility trends since we will find classic jackets and long denim coats with exaggerated proportions. This can be seen from the catwalks of Off-White and Givenchy.

Denim and high heels will remain a trend this year, since the charm is limitless. Whether you are an office worker that needs to be more professional or having a date night, denim looks great with heels.

2.   Utility wear

Many will step outside in suits. Others will step out in functional and utility clothing that gives comfort and elegance. These clothes are often characterized by pocket profusion. It is quite hard to miss this trend as it is halfway between normcore and gorp-core.

This shows that people won’t give up casual styles adopted during the pandemic. Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu are among the top houses that have explored the inspiration for spring-summer 2023 season.

3.   Suits

Since the pandemic, suits have returned many times. But, it would still be an important part of every person’s wardrobe this year. During the last round of fashion shows, several designers brought the spotlight to suits.

But, this was in a more casual form. They are not the fitted suits that we recognise. Instead, oversized cuts might take prominence. This was seen in Dries Van Noten, Stella McCartney, and Acne Studios.

But, loose-fit blazers paired with mismatched pants remain one of the most convincing trends. Better still a simple pair of pantyhose.

4.   Prints

In response to the wave of neutral and almost dull colors, designers have given momentum to different kinds of prints. Most times with playful, ultra-colourful, and sometimes eccentric motifs and quirky throwback patterns such as Moschino.

You can expect zebra prints, leopards, flowers, fruits, and snake prints. Even abstract or geometric patterns, cartoons, XXL logos, and futuristic prints representing the virtual and real world can be expected. Everybody’s taste will be met.

This trend was seen on the catwalks of Saint Laurent, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, and Roberto Cavalli.

5.   Neutrals and pastels

Since normcore are rigid high colors, colors might be more discreet in 2023. But, there will be a few exceptions that make for a more minimalist wardrobe. Beige will gain more prominence and also black, white, and gray which will become a wardrobe staple.

The aim is to return to basics. Embrace a more sustainable and less fleeting approach to fashion. Coperni, Tod, Fendi, and Sacai are among the houses making beige a top color for the year. Also, cobalt blue will bring a flash of colour to closets.

6.   Length

Several seasons have been dominated by micro and mini cuts. But though they won’t completely disappear this season, it seems length is creating significant impressions. Skirts and dresses will show several dozen centimeters more than the previous year.

They will also adopt a more minimalistic aesthetic. Whether they are oversized, sheer, or satin, they will rank among the star pieces of the season. This was seen at the fashion shows of Valentino, Acne Studios, and Givenchy.

7.   Ballet flat

In 2022, there was a trend of chunky combat styles of boots and sneakers. Though this style won’t disappear, this year presents a more sophisticated and minimalistic approach to shoes. Ballet flats will be making a statement this year as the ballet core trended last year.

This trend has been popularized by the Miu Miu fashion house. Ballet flats can be worn with or without socks. It is already proving to be a more popular choice among savvy influencers. Mary Janes will also be popular just heels are also expected to go higher.

Final Words

As seasons change, it means that new fashion trends come into the limelight. There is something for every shape and taste.

The year has it all for everyone. Whether you need the perfect party wear clothes, the latest outwear game, or neutrals, you can style yourself with the trends mentioned above.
